ICAG & CITG CHART BOLD NEW COURSE FOR TAX AND ACCOUNTING EXCELLENCE THROUGH LANDMARK PARTNERSHIP

ICAG & CITG CHART BOLD NEW COURSE FOR TAX AND ACCOUNTING EXCELLENCE THROUGH LANDMARK PARTNERSHIP

The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana (CITG) have taken a major step toward transforming professional accountancy and taxation practice in Ghana following a high-level strategic engagement aimed at deepening collaboration and creating new opportunities for their members.

The meeting was led by the CEO of ICAG, E. O. Osae, FCA. The CITG delegation was led by the President, Mrs. Ernestina Appiah, and included the Vice President, Mr. Fred Awuttey, and the Registrar, Mr. Albert Adjei. Members of the ICAG Management Team were also present.
Discussions focused on innovative areas of partnership to strengthen professional development, enhance policy advocacy, and increase the value offered by both institutions.

Key Outcomes of the Engagement

1. Development of a Post-Chartered Diploma in Tax Accounting and Administration
At the heart of the discussions was a shared commitment to develop a Post-Chartered Diploma in Tax Accounting and Administration. The programme will equip Chartered Accountants and Chartered Tax Practitioners with advanced competencies in taxation and accounting. The proposed diploma will build on ICAG's existing Professional Diploma Course in Tax Accounting Principles and Administration and represents a significant milestone in professional education within the accountancy and taxation landscape.

2. Establishment of a Joint Technical Committee
To advance the new qualification, both institutions agreed to establish a Joint Technical Committee. The Committee will review the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ICAG and CITG, examine the professional syllabi of both institutions, and develop a framework for the proposed Post-Chartered Diploma to meet the evolving needs of the profession.

3. Revised Memorandum of Understanding
The revised MoU will provide a broader framework for collaboration. It will address mutual exemptions for members pursuing each other's professional programmes, promote cooperation on accounting and taxation matters, and strengthen institutional partnerships for the benefit of members and the wider public.

4. Joint Position Papers on National Economic Issues
In a significant outcome, the ICAG CEO proposed that both institutions collaborate on producing joint position papers and professional commentaries on major national economic issues, particularly the National Budget.
"Professional commentary on such national issues should come in record time. When our institutions speak with one voice through timely and well researched position papers, we provide greater value to national discourse and meaningfully inform Parliament's decision making processes," E. O. Osae, FCA, stated. The proposal received strong support from the CITG delegation and will be included in the revised MoU.

5. Commitment to Collaboration and National Development
The meeting also reflected ICAG's growing commitment, under the leadership of its CEO, E. O. Osae, FCA, to pursue strategic partnerships that expand opportunities for members, enhance the visibility of the Institute, and contribute to national development through professional excellence.
During the engagement, the Registrar of CITG, Mr. Albert Adjei, formally requested that ICAG consider allocating office space to CITG within the Institute's new headquarters, currently under construction. The CEO advised that a formal proposal should be submitted for consideration by the ICAG Council. The President of CITG, Mrs. Ernestina Appiah, expressed appreciation to the CEO and the ICAG Management Team for the constructive discussions and reaffirmed CITG's commitment to strengthening the partnership.

The Vice President of CITG, Mr. Fred Awuttey, expressed confidence that the establishment of the Joint Technical Committee would accelerate implementation and translate the shared vision into tangible outcomes for members of both institutions.
Members of the ICAG Management Team also contributed to the discussions and reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with CITG to deliver the agreed initiatives.

Both institutions agreed to complete the review of the MoU by September 2026 and commence implementation of the agreed initiatives, with priority given to the proposed Post-Chartered Diploma in Tax Accounting and Administration.

The engagement marks another important milestone in ICAG's strategic drive to build meaningful collaborations that strengthen professional capacity, shape national policy discussions, and position the accountancy profession at the forefront of Ghana's economic development.
